Hello everyone.
I bet you have heard about how Tropical Storm Sendong (International Name "Washi") destroyed my hometown, Iligan City with all the news on TV and online. It's quite a shock for us Iliganons to experience such tragedy since it's the first time in history for a storm to pass by our city. My people did not expect that the strong winds and heavy rains brought by Sendong could result to swollen rivers and flash floods. It was because Mindanao was nowhere near the typhoon belt. Many died, including helpless babies. It's just heartbreaking. (Separate blog post on the Sendong's blowoff in Iligan here.)
Neighborhood Cagayan de Oro City also suffered from Sendong's wrath. As I write this post, death toll is already at 823, 600 more are still missing, and 22000 families are displaced. This disheartening event has about twice the statistics during Typhoon Ondoy (International Name "Ketsana") which happened last September 2009.
Update (12/20): Dead bodies found rose to 957 making Sendong the world's deadliest storm for 2011. Brazil lost 902 lives during a storm last January.
So now, I am asking you, my dear readers, to help our fellowmen stand up again. Let's us share the true meaning of Christmas by giving.
Below are some clickable photos and information of the status of Iligan & CDO and details on where you can donate (in cash and in kind.)

"Give everything you have, and after you have given, give what's left. After you give what's left, give what remains. After giving that, give the feeling of having given. After giving the feeling of having given, give what you get for having given. Then give again, never stopping, always giving. And should it come to pass that you forget, forgive yourself immediately. Then begin again, giving everything you have, and after you have given, give what's left." -Author unknown
Praying for a meaningful Christmas for all of us.
